In this scene inspired by Scarlett O'Hara, we find her being squeezed into a corset—a symbol of societal constraints and the limitations imposed on women. However, there's a twist in this portrayal, as we transport the scenario to the modern era, represented by the intrusion of modern technology.
As Scarlett is still being squeezed, the abstract layers behind her come to life, resembling the tangled cords and plugs of modern devices. These abstract elements serve to highlight the overwhelming presence of technology in our lives, sometimes exerting a similar pressure as societal expectations.
To bring this concept to life, I incorporated three-dimensional elements into the artwork. Cords representing technological entanglement are intricately sewn into the canvas, creating a tangible and immersive experience for the viewer. These cords become a metaphor for the complexities and entrapments that exist in our modern world.
By juxtaposing Scarlett's struggle with the visual representation of technology, the artwork invites reflection on the persistent pressures that individuals, particularly women, face across different eras. It prompts contemplation on the ways in which societal expectations and technological advancements can intertwine, shaping and limiting our experiences.
Ultimately, this artwork seeks to spark a conversation about the ongoing challenges individuals face in navigating societal norms and the influence of technology. It encourages viewers to question the constrictions placed upon them and consider how they can find liberation within a world that often demands conformity.
