Biography
Alissa Van Atta is a mixed media artist whose work explores femininity, identity, and the layered construction of the female figure. Through the use of resin, acrylics, oil, and collage, she creates dimensional surfaces that blur the line between image and object—revealing and obscuring simultaneously.
Influenced by art history and mid-century advertising, her work examines the tension between idealized representations of women and lived experience. Familiar imagery is fragmented and reassembled, reflecting how cultural narratives around femininity persist, evolve, and are ultimately reclaimed.
Van Atta earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Art History from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She has received multiple awards, including 1st Place for 2D at Crossroads Art Center (2022) and the ArtExpo Award of Excellence (2024), and has participated in over 18 solo and group exhibitions.
She is currently developing new work that continues to investigate visibility, control, and perception within a media-saturated landscape..
