2026
Resin and mixed media on wood
36 × 36 × 1.5 in
A figure shaped through the lens of external perception.
He Called Me Beautiful centers on the act of being seen—and defined—through another’s gaze. The figure is presented within a controlled visual field, where identity feels shaped as much by projection as by presence.
Familiar markers of femininity remain, but are layered, interrupted, and reassembled. What initially appears cohesive begins to fragment, revealing the instability beneath the surface of the image.
Encased in resin, the work is both preserved and distanced. The glossy surface creates a separation between viewer and figure, reinforcing the tension between appearance and authorship. The work exists between self-definition and imposed meaning.
Also available as an archival print.
