This handmade porcelain carton vase turns familiar packaging into a playful contemporary object.
Slip-cast in porcelain and finished by hand, the vessel features scattered multicolored underglaze dots beneath a clear brushed glaze. Red, blue, green, yellow, purple, and black marks move across the clean white surface, giving the otherwise minimal geometric form a loose, graphic rhythm.
The contrast between the recognizable carton shape and the irregular placement of the dots keeps the piece somewhere between functional vessel, pop object, and ceramic sculpture.
Display it with a single stem or small floral arrangement, or let it stand alone as a sculptural object on a shelf, tabletop, or collection.
Each carton is individually cast, decorated, and glazed by hand in my North Carolina studio. Variations in surface, placement, and finish are part of the handmade character of the work.
