A familiar everyday form gets a much moodier treatment in Mood Ring, a handmade porcelain carton vase finished in a richly variegated glaze.
Olive green, bronze, charcoal, and earthy brown move across the surface in irregular layers, creating areas that seem to change depending on the angle and light. The glaze pools and breaks differently over each plane of the carton, emphasizing its crisp geometry while giving the surface an almost weathered, painterly quality.
The contrast is what makes this piece work: a clean, recognizable carton silhouette paired with a glaze that feels atmospheric and unpredictable.
Functional as a small flower vase but equally strong displayed on its own, Mood Ring sits somewhere between utilitarian object and contemporary sculpture.
Each carton is slip-cast in porcelain and individually finished by hand in my North Carolina studio. Variations in glaze movement and surface are part of the process and make every piece one of a kind.
