Blue Rutile & Iron Lustre Ceramic Milk Jug Vase — 26.124

$110.00

Earthy, atmospheric, and beautifully unpredictable.

This one-of-a-kind porcelain milk jug combines Blue Rutile and Iron Lustre glazes to create a rich landscape of smoky blue, muted turquoise, warm bronze, and deep earthy brown.

The upper portion of the vessel features fluid passages of blue-green glaze that cascade across its angular shoulders, blending into the warmer tones beneath. Rich, lustrous browns settle around the lower body, creating a striking contrast between cool, atmospheric color and deep, grounded warmth.

The interaction of the glazes produces organic variations in color and finish, with delicate transitions, flowing edges, and unexpected markings that make every side of the vessel unique. There is an almost geological quality to the surface, reminiscent of weathered stone, mineral deposits, and landscapes shaped by time.

Inspired by the familiar silhouette of a vintage milk jug, this contemporary ceramic piece transforms a traditional utilitarian form into a small sculptural object. Its narrow neck, squared shoulders, compact proportions, and distinctive handle give it an appealing balance of nostalgia and modern design.

Each porcelain milk jug is individually handmade and glazed by artist Alissa Van Atta in her North Carolina studio. The firing process allows the glazes to interact in ways that cannot be completely controlled or duplicated, ensuring that every piece possesses its own distinctive character.

Beautiful displayed on its own, incorporated into a collection of contemporary ceramics, or styled with dried botanical stems, this little vessel brings warmth, texture, and an unexpected touch of color to a shelf, mantel, or tabletop.

A familiar form with an entirely individual personality.
