26.86 is a handmade porcelain milk jug vase finished in a rich combination of Sandalwood and Deep Sea glazes.
The lower portion of the vessel is wrapped in warm caramel, honey, and wood-toned Sandalwood, while Deep Sea pools across the shoulder, neck, and handle in a glossy band of deep navy and near-black blue. The contrast creates a bold, graphic division across the familiar milk jug form while still allowing the glaze to move naturally over the porcelain surface.
From different angles, the Sandalwood shifts between golden brown and soft amber, while the Deep Sea glaze becomes almost ink-like where it gathers more heavily. The recessed handle and softened planes of the jug give both glazes plenty of edges and curves to respond to.
Inspired by an everyday household container, this piece transforms the familiar milk jug silhouette into a contemporary sculptural vessel.
It can be used with fresh or dried flowers, branches, or displayed empty as a ceramic art object.
Each milk jug is slip-cast in porcelain and individually glazed, finished, and fired by hand in my North Carolina studio. Variations in glaze movement and surface are part of the handmade process and make each piece one of a kind.
